Playboy founder Hugh Hefner cited “irreconcilable differences” when he filed for divorce from his estranged wife, Kimberley Conrad, last month, two weeks after Conrad filed divorce papers.

“I am happy to be out of the marriage,” Hefner, 83, told celebrity-gossip website TMZ on Wednesday. “I only remained married for the sake of the children, at her request. I am happy to have this behind me.”

He claims he as already given nearly $12 million to her since their separation.

Hugh Hefner founded Playboy magazine in 1953, with its launch issue featuring a now-iconic nude spread of Marilyn Monroe. His life is profiled in the upcoming Brigitte Berman documentary, Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel.
